Map & Compass Trek

Imagine you are lost in the wilderness with only a compass, a map and your keen wit. Luckily you have been highly trained in the ways of team orienteering and are accompanied by trustworthy workmates. Okay, so maybe you are not officially “lost”, but this simulated survival activity, using map and compass reading skills, is the ultimate outdoor team building experience. It will be the corporate event that your employees will never stop talking about.

Building successful teams means each member identifies their own expertise and brings them to the table. Kippure Estate's Map and Compass Trek allows work groups to cooperatively complete an exhilarating and exciting team game where the roles of map interpreter, compass reader and team motivator naturally evolve. You and your team will feel a sense of pride as you race against the clock to complete a course passing through a varied landscape of hills and valleys, forests and grasslands, on the banks of River Liffey and with a staggering view of the Wicklow Mountains.

Itinerary (Half-Day Teambuilding Activity)

• Instructors start off by teaching your group relevant skills to complete the course. These include map-reading, using compasses, understanding bearings, pacing and calculating terrain distance.
• Teams of 3 to 5 members are created.
• Teams are briefed on the challenge and provided appropriate equipment and task sheets.
• Teams begin the orienteering challenge using a map, compass and bearings. At each checkpoint, members will complete a skill-testing team activity.
• Teams return to home base where the results are announced on a leader board. An awards ceremony concludes the Map and Compass Trek.
